Floating through the Mediterranean

The wind blows from the Mediterranean, while the silhouette of the moon shines down from behind the palm trees that sway to the wind.  I take a deep breath of the fresh air, enjoying the peace and quiet of the moment, while I stroll on the boardwalk at 11 pm trying to digest all that food I had.

I had paella, which is tradition to Spain and considering how much I enjoy trying different things, I had one which included rabbit meat. I was unsure about my choice, however, digging into, all I can say is that it tasted like chicken.

So here I am attempting to walk off all that food and wine I had, trying to not to think too much about anything. But unfortunately no matter how much I try, I can never shut down my mind, there is always a million what if’s going through my head, plus recently it has been about the person I met in Turkey. I will leave it at ‘there was something about him’.

I admit I am jaded about people, while I agree it is not right, I am still cautious and skeptical, it sometimes makes me sad that I find it hard to trust anyone and constantly waiting for them to slip up, so I can say to myself how right I was. I probably say all this because most often people say all the right things that they assume you want to hear, but can they follow through is always what is left to be seen.

Despite all that, this has been a vacation of a lifetime. The wonderful food I have consumed and the wine and just the experience of navigating through a city unknown taking public transport, walking around and exploring everything it has to offer, feels like just what I needed.

In order to keep up with my training, I did run 6 miles on the boardwalk this evening, during which time a few men tried chatting to me, but my 25 words of Spanish and their 25 words of English was insufficient.  Maybe in hindsight that is a good thing. I would not want to leave a string of broken hearts in Spain or maybe even leave broken-hearted.

But if I were to do this again, I would definitely want to have a better knowledge of the language to enjoy it more. But you learn as you go along, so that indeed has been a lesson for me.

I continue to stare into the distance my mind still dashing from one thought to another, when my phone beeps and I look at my message and smile. This truly has been a great day.

I walk back to my room, thinking of the upcoming drive to Portugal and how I will navigate the roundabouts and roads. Well I am sure it is going to be a challenge, but one I am up for.

About my random musings

I am originally from South East Asia and I moved to the US about 15 years ago to follow my heart. My heart has since been broken a few times, but I continue to be on journey of trying to mend it. I could talk about running, baking or writing in a small crowd, but put me in a room full of strangers and I will be the one standing in a corner people watching. When I am not writing or running, I would be in my kitchen, flour strewn all over the kitchen counters, music playing in the background and me just rolling and folding dough, excited about what my creation will turn out to be. Besides that I love passionately, when I love, I give it my all, not always a good thing, but that is who I am. I jump both feet in and sometimes I come out with regrets but having learnt a lesson. I believe everything happens for a reason and this is my place to share bits and pieces of my life, my adventures and sometimes misadventures. Hope you enjoy reading my stories as much I enjoy sharing them with you.
